A matching voltage label is not enough
A battery and inverter must work together electrically, communicate as required by their operating mode, and support the intended backup configuration. A CAN or RS485 port does not by itself prove compatibility with another manufacturer's product.
What to verify before a purchase order
- Exact identity: battery model and revision, inverter model, country variant and firmware. A compatible product family is not proof for every model.
- Operating voltage: compare the full battery voltage range with the inverter's battery input range, including charge and cutoff settings. Do not rely only on nominal voltage.
- Current and power: compare permitted continuous and peak battery current with inverter demand, charging settings, protection and cable requirements.
- BMS communication: confirm supported protocol, connector pinout, cable, firmware and configuration. Ask for written confirmation for the exact pairing. An open-loop mode, if permitted, still needs an approved settings procedure.
- Backup behavior: verify the backup output, essential-load circuits, transfer behavior, surge capability and recovery after a low-battery shutdown. Do not assume grid-tied solar supplies power during a grid outage.
- Charging sources: confirm the permitted grid, solar and generator configuration, including input limits and any required isolation or changeover equipment.
- Installation and expansion: check siting, temperature, enclosure rating, cable and protection requirements, earthing and approved parallel limits. Use the product manual and a qualified local installer.
Ask for evidence that matches the order
Request the current manuals, the relevant compatibility statement or approved settings, and a commissioning checklist. Ask which certificates and reports apply to the exact model and destination; a certificate for one product does not cover an entire portfolio.

Keep commissioning and after-sales responsibilities clear
Agree who configures the system, tests essential loads, records settings, handles a failed startup and provides support. A distributor should retain model and firmware records so later replacement parts or added batteries can be checked against the original system.
Battery module or all-in-one ESS?
A separate battery can suit a project with an already approved inverter platform. An all-in-one system may simplify some equipment choices, but still requires checks for backup loads, charging sources, installation and local requirements. Neither format removes the need for model-specific verification.
